Location Florida
I live in a large (100 or so households) and successful intentional community in North Florida. We're in the woods outside of Tallahassee, Florida. The community has been in existence since the early 70's. The original founders of the community were all 20 somethings when the community was formed. Now we're old and gray and doing our best to encourage younger folks to settle here. The plan is working. This past summer, one of our founders, our community archivist and a wonderful friend, Katie, died. She left her home, and a 2nd home that belonged to her late brother, to the community with a request that we sell both properties to young people.

Being a cooperative, we've had lots of meetings about this and have ended up deciding that if you're younger than 40, you qualify. There are a whole heap of environmental and social restrictions on land in the coop, and living in a community as social and connected as ours isn't for everyone. Because we are selling the property at less than market value, a couple of extra restrictions have been added. These relate to renting and resale. Basically, if you buy one of these houses and resell it withing seven years, you have to give the community any profit you make from the sale over what you paid for it (with a CPI factor to keep things fair). Rentals are restricted for the same period. Basically we are looking for someone who wants to be here and wants to stay here. This is not a financial investment as much as it is a lifestyle investment

I've posted a heap of photos on my flickr. The set that shows Katie's house is at www.flickr.com/photos/rad...3968093012/ The house in the photo set is on 2.7 acres of land. It has a well that is shared with several other households, electricity, and connections for cable and telephone. The land is mostly woods but there is a quarter acre vineyard, a large garden and extensive fruit and flowering tree plantings.

I'll post photos of the 2nd property soon.

If you have any interest in this property, please contact me via tribe.net and I'll forward your information to our land transfer committee. I'm opening a thread in the intentional communities tribe for questions and answers.

Rocking in the swamps, I'm Davie.
