Becky (me)
*Father Joseph
Board Setup:
Top left: junkyard, gas station, bank
Top Right: school, gym
Bottom left: gun shop, the plant, general store
Bottom right: barn, cornfield, farmhouse
This game came down to the last turn of the game… THE LAST TURN… I did not have the time during play to keep a turn by turn notes which I like the do, but this is to classic not to write a summery.
Here we go!!
To start out Jake and Becky both head towards the school to meet up with Johnny to card farm and find those precious explosive cards. Jenny in the farm house searches the first turn and finds the revolver… then tried to move to the barn. She swings into the cornfield and was able to sneak by two zombies…
The zombies are all moving towards the school except the 3 zombies that are trying to get Jenny. The Zombies had some great Zombie placement rolls at the beginning so most of the zombies were on the board to start, so new zombies were not being placed and since the location the trio in the school were at in the school, they had several turns before the zombies we in position to stomp. All that farming only gained them a few weapons and one big stick of Dynamite! Jenny decides that she had enough and rushed as fast as she could to the gunshop.
The zombies played the discard 10 card and some gas was discarded. Once the zombies closed on the trio in the school, they all three headed towards the pit in the junkyard. The strategy there is to one, try to get one of the discarded explosive cards and take out the zombie pit. Johnny takes the path along the edge of the board, while Becky and Jake go through the center and around hoping they can split the zombies. In the process Jake takes a hit and is slowed down with a trip. Becky leaves him behind. Becky is going around the gas station, Jake heads into the gas station to pick up that discarded gas can and Jonny heads through the top of the junkyard. At the same time Jenny gets to the gunshop and starts to farm cards. She is getting cards but no explosives.
The zombies are now playing some tricky moves… they play lights out on the gas station and lights out in the junk yard… The good thing is Becky had a torch and Johnny had a lighter… That really caused havoc on Jake… the turn he makes it into the gas station, he gets hit by 3 zombies and they kill him… now we have a hero zombie and down one hero. Becky is stuck at the entrance and there are 4 zombies that enter her square. John searches the first part of the junkyard and lucks out and finds gas.
Jenny is still farming cards but the zombies are leaving here alone… they are sending everything to the junkyard. She is drawing everything but explosives… but the card farming continues… Becky is at the entrance of the junkyard with 4 zombies and she was able to fend all of them off… she took two wounds, but was able to get away. She moves into the junkyard and to the very back as far as way as she could get. Johnny moves up and decides to throw the dynamite at the 4 sets of zombies… BAM!!!!!!! All the zombies that just took a bite out of jenny are dead,
Now with a zombie hero and a few by the gas station they start to move in on Becky… seeing a threat at the gun shop, a few zombies are making their way towards Jenny. The good thing is, a few low rolls on the zombie spawn and none are spawning. Johnny moves onto the spawn spot and prepares to use the dynamite… Becky uses her turn the random search of the discard pile for and to here luck picked up the Dynamite...
Now there is 6 turns left… Johnny is on the spawn point… Becky is two spots from the door at the top of the junkyard and Jenny is still in the gun shop looking for dynamite… A new zombie spawn point arrived in the plant… 4 zombies and 1 zombie hero were closing on Becky… 3 on Jill and two were heading from the plant to the Junk yard… We needed a pause in the action… this game is getting tense.
This is when a small 10 minute argument arose… Matt decided that he was going to reach over and cut the hero deck, and he did so… I complained that he just messed with the outcome of the game. His argument was that the cards were not known so no harm… I argued that the start of the game controlled the outcome… when all was said and done we started back up… Johnny blew up the zombie pit in the junkyard with the gas… Becky sprinted towards the other door at the top of the junkyard… KEY SPOT… Jenny searches again and WHAM… draws a stick of dynamite… Another 5 minute discussion and trash talk started with me and Matt. I told him that is what he got for cutting the hero deck. He then changed his view and wanted to reshuffle the cards… I said no way… you did this… Now the Zombie players thought we were going to stay on the left side of the board and try to get to the closest spawn points, the two in the plant. They started moving all the open zombies to the plant… Tony and I decided that it would be better to have Jenny take the last couple turns and try to make it to the Barn and Jenny to try to make it to the spawn by the school… Johnny searches the junkyard and BAM… finds the discarded gas… what are the odds of that… 2/3 of the hero cards are in the discard piles… two sleight shuffles and two straight pulling the cards that we need.
5 turns left…
Zombies get to the front of junkyard and the zombie hero lands on Becky spot, she fights and fends of the zombie hero… three zombies get to the front of the gun shop and two at the side door.
Jenny fends of the Zombie hero and heads out the door and gets to the middle of the board. Jenny runs into 3 zombies… she was able to fend all of them off… Johnny rushes and comes out the bottom of the junk yard.
4 turns left
The hero Zombie moves closer to her and two zombies get onto Becky space. Becky gets attacked and is killed by the flesh eating monsters… Jenny gets attacked by the three and takes 1 wound… and the two on the side are one space away from Jenny.
Johnny gets a good movement roll of 6 and was able to leave the junkyard and gets to the edge of the center board. Jenny rolls and gets a good roll… wait… she gets tripped and only gets to move 2 spaces.
3 turns left
Zombies approach, the two zombies that killed Becky lurch onto Johnny… he takes 1 wound and fends off the other… the five zombies move next to Jenny… but just could not get to her.
Johnny moves on to the spawn point next to the school and Becky rolls again… and only rolls a 1… she moves next to the two zombies and hopes that she can fend them off one more time.
2 Turns left…
The zombies move closer to Johnny, the hero zombie being 3 spaces away rolls a 4 and could only get next to Johnny. The other zombies pounce on Jenny… she attempts to fend off the first zombie and fails… she dies and yet another Hero Zombie is born. A new hero is drawn the Father Joseph arrives… on the random building roll, we get the luck of the roll and do you know what happens… he ends up in the Plant right on top of the zombie pool!! Man, these last 5 turns have been nothing but miraculous for the heroes… Seeing where he is, the zombies by the gun shop close on the plant… the spawn roll is two and both are placed in the pant as well.
Johnny blows the second zombie pool. The heroes have one shot… search and hope that the top card is an explosive… what did we pull… nope not an explosive… we pulled the all mighty “Just what we need card” ! unbelievable… now the trash talking hits again about Matt cutting the cards… the Father pulls out a stick of dynamite from the discard pile… The problem is, he has to fight the zombie on the zombie pool… he fails to fend him off and takes a wound.
Last turn…
The zombie played relentless advance and gets 4 zombies onto The father… and the Zombie hero Jake attacks Johnny… and fails.
Johnny just moves into the school… Here is the end… If the father can fend off the 4 zombies,,, we win… he drops the dynamite… fights zombie 1….. takes a wound… fights zombie 2… and the zombie rolls a 6 and the Father rolls a 3 and 4… game over and the zombies win…
This ending was intense…. Matt and Paul were stating we did not have a chance from turn 6 and on… this was the closest game I have played yet… down to the last turn…
WOW!!!
I really dig this game
